Sawdust Tapestry

La Semana Santa (Holy Week) commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through a week long series of Eater activities. It is marked by church and prayer service, religious processions and other solemn activities all across Belize. In Benque Viejo, Good Friday morning features the Live Passion Play with local actor dramatizing Christ’s trial, tribulation and crucifixion. Residents also create intricately-designed sawdust tapestries on the streets as a show of gratitude for blessings received throughout the year.
